Policy & Resolution Process
Providence College and the Office of Equity Compliance are committed to fostering a community where every student, staff, and faculty member is treated with dignity and respect, as each person is created in the image and likeness of God.
Title IX and Non-Title IX Sexual Misconduct
In accordance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972:
“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.”
Sexual misconduct—including sexual assault and rape—violates the sanctity of the human body, mind, and spirit and will not be tolerated in our community. Such conduct also constitutes a serious violation of College policy and, in many cases, criminal law.
Title VI Harassment and Discrimination
Providence College is dedicated to providing learning, working, and living environments free from discrimination and harassment. Harassment based on race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, veteran status, genetic information, or any other legally protected category is strictly prohibited.
This policy applies to all students, faculty, staff, administrators, and third parties, including visitors, guests, contractors, and vendors. Anyone who becomes aware of a potential incident is encouraged to report it to the Office of Equity Compliance, the Office of Public Safety, a Coordinator, or local law enforcement.
All members of the community are expected to understand and follow the College’s conduct standards. All employees unless identified as confidential resources are mandatory reporters and must report incidents involving discrimination, harassment, or retaliation, including sexual misconduct, within 24 hours.
